17 Feel-Good TV Shows and Movies

In these times of quarantine, I’ve searched for feel-good tv shows and movies.  Nothing too dramatic or heavy, no murders, mostly just baking shows and female leads. Here’s what I’ve been watching in 2020, wrapped up blankets, trying to escape the crazy world outside.

Images are sourced from Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and HD Report.

FEEL-GOOD TV SHOWS

The Baby-Sitter’s Club (Netflix, 1 season)
This show is based off the popular book series, and it brings the BSC into the modern day where the middle school-aged baby sitters are entrepreneurial, diverse, and culturally-aware.  These girls are way cooler than I’ll ever be and I need a season 2 ASAP!

Emily in Paris (Netflix, 1 season)
Lily Collins plays Emily Cooper, a naïve American social media manager who goes to work at a French agency.  This show makes me want to go to Paris ASAP and it’s full of fun fashion and silly things that get lost in translation.

feel-good shows and movies

The Great British Baking Show (Netflix, 8 seasons)
British home bakers compete in a series of challenges testing their baking knowledge, creativity, and presentation.  All the contestants are so nice to each other and they’re all amateurs, so none of them own a bakery or anything. I’ve learned a lot about British treats and this show just makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside!

Lily and Dash (Netflix, 1 season)
It’s the holiday season and high schoolers Lily and Dash are both lonely.  Without meeting, they write to each other, passing a notebook back and forth, each discovering New York City with a new perspective.  It’s such a cute show with a diverse cast!  The episodes are super short, so I binged it in one night.

feel-good shows and movies

Magic For Humans (Netflix, 3 seasons)
Justin Willman is a comedic magician and performs all sorts of magic tricks in the presence of every day people.  Is it real? I don’t know, but he sure fools me!

The Pack (Amazon Prime Video, 1 season)
Olympic skier and dog lover Lindsey Vonn hosts an Amazing Race-type reality competition show. Twelve humans and their dogs travel around the world and compete in challenges for a cash prize.  It’s just a lighthearted show with doggos, if I was ever going to go on a tv show, I’d definitely want it to be this one!

Say I Do (Netflix, 1 season)
This show is like Queer Eye, but instead of giving middle-aged men makeovers, a talented group of gay men give deserving couples wedding do-overs.  Bring tissues!

Sugar Rush Extra Sweet/Sugar Rush Christmas/Sugar High (Netflix, 4 seasons)
Sprinkles Cupcakes founder Candace Nelson and Australian pastry chef Adriano Zumbo serve as judges while teams of bakers compete in three rounds: cupcakes, confections, and cakes.  Sugar Rush Extra Sweet ups the ante from the original Sugar Rush show with extra challenges and prizes. Sugar Rush Christmas features all the peppermint and holiday goodies. Sugar High features sugar and candy sculptors.  Eat some dessert while you’re watching this show, you’ll definitely be craving some sugar!

feel-good shows and movies

Sweet Magnolias (Netflix, 1 season)
Three women from South Carolina have been friends since childhood.  This show follows them and their families through love and living in a small town.  I love how everyone looks like they came out of a Madewell ad.  If you like watching Hallmark movies, this show is for you!

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist (Hulu, 1 season)
After an earthquake occurs while she’s getting an MRI, Zoey starts hearing and seeing people’s inner thoughts as they break out and in song and dance in front of her.  She even starts to express her own feelings through music.  It’s fun and quirky show that tackles a lot of human issues, and Jane Levy is great!

FEEL-GOOD MOVIES

The Half of It (Netflix)
A teenage girl who makes money by writing her classmates’ essays befriends one of the boys in her class and helps him write love letters to his crush.  This is a quiet and simple movie, not like a lot of other vibrant and colorful Netflix originals, but I still enjoyed it.

Holidate (Netflix)
Emma Roberts plays a single young woman named Sloane who meets a man at the mall and they decide to be each other’s dates to all holiday events.  It’s a funny concept, who doesn’t love a dysfunctional family holiday?

Love, Guaranteed (Netflix)
A man has gone on 1,000 dates and wants to sue a dating site that guarantees love. A Seattle lawyer takes the case and they prepare for court.  This is a cute one, I love the little comedic moments and Seattle references.

Moana (Disney+)
Moana is the chief’s daughter and they live on an island, but she is forbidden from going in the ocean.  She is chosen for a quest and embarks on a journey to another island to return the heart to the goddess Te Fiti.  You’ve probably already seen this, but it’s not a bad idea to watch it again and escape!

Set It Up (Netflix)
In this romantic comedy, two assistants in New York City devise a plan to make their demanding bosses (Lucy Liu and Taye Diggs) fall in love and hopefully improve their work life balance.  This is a true romantic comedy and it’s probably one of my favorite Netflix movies!

The Short Game (Netflix, documentary)
This documentary follows nine 7 and 8-year-olds from around the world playing in the 2012 US Kids Golf World Championship in North Carolina.  The kids are adorable, and one of them is Allan Kournikova, the little brother of the Russian professional tennis player Anna Kournikova.

Soul (Disney+)
In this Pixar movie, a music teacher’s soul has been separated from his body and he has to figure out how to get back to the Land of the Living.  YOLO!  The metaphysical concepts might be confusing, so you do need to pay attention, but I thought Pixar did a good job keeping it simple.  There are also some great funny moments sprinkled throughout.

I LOVED BBC! I was a huge fan of the books, show, everything when I was a kid (I was in the mail bookclub, had the game, and even tried to start my own club!) so when I saw they were making a new show I was all about it! It was super adorable!
