This year has been slow to ramp up, but March definitely felt busier!
R is for Reading
I realize I got a ton of reading done at airports last year. I haven’t been on any trips this year yet, and my reading progress has been very slow. This year I’m trying to have half the books I read be by BIPOC authors and I’m currently reading a nonfiction book written by a man who was wrongly imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay called Don’t Forget Us Here: Lost and Found at Guantanamo by Mansoor Adayfi. So far, it’s unsurprisingly very horrific, which makes it hard to read in large chunks.
E is for Eating
Pickles! I’ve especially been loving pickle de gallo. Yes, you read that right. I first heard about pickle de gallo on this year’s Pinterest Predicts report, and although I’m not making it myself, I am certainly enjoying Grillo’s Pickles version! I also have been buying ~gourmet~ pickles from the Crazy Cucumber at farmers markets. I’m currently getting through some horseradish pickles, but the buffalo ranch ones have been my favorite so far.
P is for Prioritizing
I’ve been trying to keep my apartment pretty clean and put things away (my parents probably won’t believe this). I have a tendency to spread out and leave things all over the place, but I’m finding that clutter takes up mental energy that I just don’t have anymore #growth. I love vacuuming and do so at least once a week, and I also have this reusable dust rag and so I just dust something every week and put the rag into the laundry and repeat that every week as well.
O is for Obsessing over
Tate McRae’s new album, So Close To What, has been on repeat in my car. I also got tickets to see her with a few friends in November. Is she a lyrical genius? Absolutely not. But it’s so fun and a great album to run to. I also got a kick out of watching this reaction video by a bunch of dudes on a couch.
R is for Recommending
This is nothing new, but I’m a huge advocate of The Five Minute Journal, I’ve even given a few as gifts! I started incorporating it into my daily morning routine in 2023. It may sound kinda woo woo, but taking five minutes every day to set a few intentions and be grateful has lowkey changed my life and maybe rewired my brain? I don’t think I’m a naturally positive person, but this practice has helped me start every day with some optimism. The company that makes the journal is called Intelligent Change, and the couple who founded it have a cool business story which you can check out on this episode of the Female Startup Club podcast.
T is for Treating
I love going out to eat at restaurants, but I’m finding it a lot easier to cook at home when I treat myself to fun ingredients from the farmer’s market. I checked out the Marina Del Rey market for the first time this month and got some microgreens, tomatoes, avocados, lettuce, sourdough, and chicken salad and made some great avocado toasts and salads!
