MY FIRST PGA TOURNAMENT
Through my job (read more about my job in media planning in this post), I got to attend the last day of the Genesis Invitational at the Riviera Country Club in Brentwood a couple weeks ago! I don’t play golf, but I learned a lot about the sport from my friend in high school who was on the varsity golf team, and I did watch the first season of Full Swing on Netflix – the LIV Golf shake-up? Crazy!!
It was a beautiful 70-degree February Sunday in Los Angeles. People started teeing off at 7am, but my co-worker and I didn’t get there until around 11am since we were mostly there for the experience. I heard golf tournaments were a lot of walking, so I wore comfy clothes (no denim though!) and sneakers.
The tournament website was constantly updated on which holes the players were at, so we were able to easily find and watch some of the people that I recognized from my little golf exposure like Scottie Sheffler, Jordan Spieth, and Rory McIlroy. Everyone in general admission (my ticket) was able to walk around the whole course, it seemed like the VIP just gave you access to lounges and special seating overlooking the 18th hole. It was pretty cool that you could be super close to the athletes, especially on the putting green! They really do have people with signs telling you to be quiet and people really do golf clap.
My co-worker that I was hanging out with didn’t wear sneakers and we didn’t care that much about seeing the whole course, so we mainly stuck around holes 9, 10, and 18. We got lunch around 12:30. I thought that golf food would be bougie, but there were just kiosks selling basic stadium food. I bought a $9 hot dog and an $8 water smh. We also hit up the tournament merch store and got hats. The Greek yogurt brand Fage was an event sponsor and had a stand with free yogurt (such a random food to be eating on a golf course), so we got that as well.
I do think the glorious weather accounted for half of it, but I had such a good time!! I could be into golf spectating for sure, and now I need to catch up on Full Swing seasons 2-3. You can also volunteer for the event, and I might actually look into that for next year.
MY ALL-TIME TOP 10 GIRL SCOUT COOKIE RANKING
Most of y’all reading know I spent the majority of my childhood as a Girl Scout peddling cookies, and half of you are my former clients. I have years of experience eating these things and have seen different flavors come and go, some better than others. I bought 7 boxes this year, although I aspire to be one of those people who buy a whole case (12 boxes). I loved it as a child when someone did that! One day, I will be fiscally irresponsible and drop $70 on Girl Scout cookies, and that’s how I’ll know I’ve made it in life.

WHAT I’VE BEEN ASKING CHATGPT
I think it’s insane that iPhones and self-driving cars and AI exist, and we don’t have a cure for cancer. AI is bad for the environment and our work ethic, but I’m sure it will become an integral part of my life at some point. For now, I feel like I’ve been extremely slow to adopt it and so far, my AI activities are limited to asking ChatGPT a question a few times a week. This is what I use it for the most lately:
- Client emails: Honestly, this has been extremely helpful at work so I don’t spend too much time wordsmithing my client communication. I’m often asking ChatGPT to “Make this sound nicer for my client.”
- Dream interpretations: My dreams, no matter how strange or random they seem, always reflect my recent thoughts and feelings, it’s kind of shocking.
- Recipes: Sometimes I ask ChatGPT to come up with a recipe with a few ingredients I already have; however, I do think good old-fashioned Google is better for this.
My friend said she’s been using it to find active discount codes from influencers to apply at checkout when she’s online shopping. Brands give influencer codes that are usually for 10-25% off, and I definitely will be using this hack in the future!

Nice to see you’re starting to appreciate golf 😜 Riviera is one of my favorite venues for the tour, although I’ve never been.
S’mores are discontinued 🤷♂️
